— About

One drawing table. Forty years.

A short description of who reads your work, what the studio is, and how we built it.

The studio is led by Ann, a graphic designer with a forty-year career in newspaper, billboard, and direct-mail advertising. She drew with a pencil and a loupe (a magnifier for type) before there was a Macintosh, and learned every tool the industry put in front of her after that. She still keeps a Schaedler ruler at her drawing table.

She has spent her career making print do work for real businesses, on real deadlines, with real money on the line — department-store ads, regional bank campaigns, restaurant menus, billboards along the interstate. Forty years of that kind of work makes a particular kind of taste: opinionated, allergic to filler, biased toward subtraction over decoration, oriented toward whether the piece actually does its job.

What this site does

The studio offers design critiques. You upload a piece of design — a poster, a landing page, a menu, a logo, a draft. You get back a one-page critique in your inbox, marked up in red pencil, in under twenty-four hours.

The critique is drafted by a careful program — Anthropic's Claude, prompted to think the way Ann does about a piece. Ann shaped the perspective from her career — she reviews the work that ships, signs every piece that goes out, and has the final say on anything bearing her name. The labor of generating each critique is the model's. The taste is hers.

Why we built it

The design field, in 2026, has more tools than ever and less judgment to go with them. The new generators can produce a thousand layouts before lunch and not pick the right one. We wanted to build the inversion: small, named, opinionated, anchored to a specific person's eye.

Her son builds with the new machinery for a living. The two of them designed the system together. He handles the wires; she handles the calls. The work is always hers.

What we won't do

We won't license Ann's name, voice, or the work archive to any outside party, ever, for any AI training purpose. We won't grow the studio past what one person and a small operation can sustain. The studio is engineered to stay small. That is the point of it.
